Abaqus Plug-in for 2D RVE Modelling (UD2D)

The Abaqus Plug-in for 2D RVE Modelling (UD2D) automatically creates a two-dimensional (2D) representative volume element (RVE) consisting of circular inclusions or fibers within a rectangular matrix.
This plug-in is ideal for mesoscale modeling of unidirectional composites, concrete, metal matrix composites, and particle-reinforced polymers.

  1. Efficient Particle Placement Algorithms
    The plug-in integrates three advanced placement algorithmsRandom Sequential Absorption (RSA), Random Around Particle (RAP), and Molecular Dynamics (MD)—to generate high volume fractions (up to 80%) within seconds.

  2. Customizable Particle Sizes and Orientations
    Users can define a range of circle diameters and orientations, enabling realistic and flexible microstructure modeling.

  3. Automatic Overlap Detection
    The code checks intersections between circles using a user-defined tolerance, ensuring smooth meshing and precise geometry control.

  4. Boundary Periodicity Option
    When a circle intersects the RVE boundary, the plug-in can automatically recreate it on the opposite side, maintaining periodic geometry according to user preferences.

  5. Material Assignment and Orientation Control
    Each inclusion (fiber or particle) can have independent material properties. Users can easily modify or assign materials and orientations as needed.

  6. Periodic Boundary Condition (PBC) Compatibility
    After creating the RVE, users can apply periodic boundary conditions using the EngSoft_PBC2D_V1 Plug-in, ensuring accurate simulation results in 2D RVE modelling.
