The Abaqus UD3D Plug-in is designed to automatically create a three-dimensional Unidirectional (3D) representative volume element (RVE) containing cylindrical inclusions within a cubic matrix.
This tool is ideal for microscale modeling of unidirectional composite materials, supporting both high and low fiber volume fractions.

  2. Variable Fiber Diameters

    Users can define a range of fiber diameters, allowing for more realistic microstructure generation.

  3. Automatic Intersection Detection

    The code checks for fiber intersections using a user-defined tolerance, simplifying meshing by maintaining an adjustable minimum distance between fibers.

  4. Boundary Periodicity Handling

    If a fiber intersects the model boundary, the plug-in automatically creates the corresponding fiber on the opposite side to maintain geometric continuity.

  5. Material Assignment and Orientation Control

    Each fiber can be assigned individual material properties and orientations. Users can easily modify materials and choose whether or not to apply material orientation to the fibers.

  6. Multiple Modeling Approaches for Meshing Flexibility

    To minimize meshing issues in complex RVEs, the plug-in offers three modeling techniques:

    • Merge method

    • Embedded element technique

    • Voxel-based modeling

  7. Compatibility with Periodic Boundary Conditions (PBC)
